printed postgraduate prospectus.
"The
issue of intelligence and security policy is one of the
fastest growing areas of academic and public concern.
Now more than ever, national governments, international
agencies and major international corporations have an
increasing need for staff with a strong grasp of intelligence
and security issues who can also demonstrate first-rate
skills of research and assessment. Taught by the internationally
respected scholars of the Brunel Centre for Intelligence
and Security Studies and backed up, where necessary, by
practitioner expertise, this distinctive course emphasises
intelligence management, policy and analytical skills
grounded in an historical study of intelligence and international
security. As well as taught modules, the programme employs
student-centred training such as a seminar course on case
studies in intelligence success and intelligence failure
and an Analytical Simulation Exercise (ASE). The ASE will
require student teams to perform an open-source intelligence
assessment on one or more topics. This combination of
practical and academic training should be of particular
value to individuals seeking security-oriented careers
and to organisations and institutions that need an academically
rigorous but practical training programme to enhance the
intelligence and security skill of their personnel.
