The
following information was taken directly from Brunel University's
printed postgraduate prospectus.
“The
course will include modules devoted specifically to issues
of risk, insecurity and the media, and will examine case
studies of risk associated with everything from daily
events like travel safety to the ‘big picture’
matters of terrorism and international ‘new’
wars such as that in Iraq. You will also have the opportunity
to focus on risk and (in)security issues within your own
culture, giving you the opportunity to conduct original
research. A very wide range of risk and security theory
will be covered in this course, dealing with a range of
disciplines such as sociology, psychology and cultural,
media and communication studies. You will also be encouraged
to take parallel units in Globalisation and the New Media
and in Health, Risk and The Media.
This is the first Master’s course anywhere in the
world that covers such a wide range of social and scientific
approaches to risk, security and the media. It is taught
by experts with international reputations in the field
and will produce graduates ready for employment in the
wide range of risk communication jobs that are now beginning
to appear.
Modules:
• Theories of Risk, Insecurity and the Media
• Qualitative Methods in Social and Cultural Research
