"This course is your chance to develop the understanding and skills needed to detect and analyse crucial biological evidence collected at a crime scene.
Designed to be exciting and practical in a way that is relevant to forensic investigation, this course provides you with the basic skills of evidence collection and handling, sample preparation and analysis, eg. using DNA technology and scanning electron microscopy with X-ray microanalysis. You can choose a work placement between Years Two and Three. The University of Glamorgan has been running Forensic Science courses for over a decade and was one of the first UK universities to offer a BSc (Hons) Forensic Science.

Course Content

Year One
Year one has a range of introductory modules such as introduction to Forensic Science and Criminalistics, Analytical Methods, Cell Biology and Organic Chemistry.

Year Two
This year will enhance your skills and theoretical knowledge with modules in Forensic Eveidence, Imaging, Earth Science, Molecular Biology and Medical Microbiology.

Year Three
You will study advanced modules in DNA Analysis and Interpretation, Genetics, Forensic Microscopy, Toxicology, Case Studies, Biological Anthropology, Clinical Biochemistry and Pharmacology and Scanning Electron Microscopy.

How will you study
Your study will involve about 10 hours in lectures/tutorials and six hours of practicals each week. Achievement and training will be monitored through a combination of continuous assessment, with coursework set as practicals and occasional in-course tests, plus an end-of-year examination.

This course enables its graduates to seek and gain good careers in a number of areas, such as scenes of crime and forensic investigation teams, biomedical laboratories, toxicology laboratories, and employment in the food and pharmaceutical industries."
