"This
MSc allows you to conduct an independent psychological
study within a supportive academic culture. The Department
of Psychology at Glamorgan has a thriving research culture
with expertise in numerous fields. We offer a comprehensive
range of facilities and a friendly atmosphere in which
to conduct your studies.
You can choose an area of psychology that most interests
you and pursue a relevant research project in that area.
Research topics include but are not restricted to:
• Lifespan Development
• Parent-Child Relationships
• Older Citizens and Community Participation
• Online Romantic Relationships
• Cyberbullying
• Sport Psychology
• Psychology of Spelling
• Psychology of Deception
You will also receive training in research methodology,
covering both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
A prior knowledge of statistics is preferable, although
you will get formal training in statistics and relevant
computer applications.
How you will study
You will work independently primarily, but will be supported
by close supervision from an academic member of staff.
Research Methodology involves class attendance for three
hours each week and completion of written assignments.
To share and develop ideas, you will be encouraged to
present your research to colleagues at regular seminars
throughout the year and to interact with other research
students.
The MSc Psychology degree involves completing a dissertation
of around 25,000 words, based on an individual piece of
research. After you have submitted this, an external assessor
will examine you about the dissertation content. Additionally,
you need to complete all assessments for the taught element
of the award satisfactorily. The final MSc project is
presented with an accompanying viva voce.
